Caveats: Idols should not exceed 4 feet, processions disallowed
BENGALURU:
Following pressure from local organisations across the state, the Karnataka government has allowed installation of Ganesha idols at public places — with caveats, including restricting the height of the idols to 4 feet.
Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar issued revised guidelines in the matter, and on Tuesday Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa shared the guidelines on Twitter.
The revised guidelines:
•Ganesh Chaturthi can be celebrated in a simple manner with a minimum number of devotees in homes, temples, or government/private/public land.
•Idols in public places should not exceed 4 feet in height, while those installed in homes should not exceed 2 feet.
•Ganeshotsav committees must obtain prior approval from the authorities concerned.
•Premises with a capacity of 20 people should be used so that not more than 20 people gather at once.
•No cultural, music, dance or other events are to be held in temples.
•No processions when bringing down or disposing of the idols are allowed.
•Those celebrating at home should do the visarjan at home. Idols installed outside should be immersed in existing public tanks.
