₹10 Crore Civic Amenity Land Reclaimed in Shantiniketan Layout
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru South City Corporation has successfully reclaimed civic amenity (CA) sites valued at nearly ₹10 crore in the Shantiniketan Layout of Arakere, situated within the Bommanahalli Zone. This action comes in compliance with a directive established by the Karnataka High Court.
The High Court, in Writ Petition No.14427/2021 dated December 3, 2024, mandated that plots reserved for public use in Survey No.76, Site Nos.15 and 16, along with other designated civic amenity areas in Shantiniketan Layout, be restored to the civic authorities.
Following this ruling, Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh led a team of officials to conduct an on-site inspection, revealing that certain individuals had unlawfully encroached upon the civic amenity land and commenced construction on these reserved plots.
In response, officials, accompanied by police protection, demolished the illegal structures and cleared the site of any construction materials. The reclaimed area spans approximately 20,000 square feet and is estimated to be worth around ₹10 crore. The civic body is now poised to repurpose this land for public amenities and community welfare.
To deter further encroachments or misuse of civic amenity sites, the authorities have also installed signboards designating the land as the property of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, as noted by Commissioner Ramesh. The operation was conducted with the oversight of Bommanahalli Zone Joint Commissioner Satish Babu, Chief Engineer K.V. Ravi, and other officials.
