After the dismal TV visuals of a Covid victim lying dead on a footpath in Hanumanthnagar on Friday comes another shocker of a victim abandoned by his own kin.
Official sources told thebengalurulive that BBMP officials collected the 43-year-old victim’s body from St. Philomena’s Hospital on Mother Teresa Street, close to Sholay Circle. “The victim’s body was cremated at Hebbal as per protocol,” a source said. The body was put in a plastic body bag for its journey to the crematorium and the PPE kits of the staff were later disposed of as per protocol.
Pressed for more details, the source said it would not be ‘appropriate’ to reveal the Identity of the patient as his own family members had not turned up to claim the body.
“Though these are Covid deaths, on humanitarian grounds we allow family members to accompany us till the cremation process is completed. The hospital authorities informed BBMP to remove the body as the man’s relatives did not turn up and did not wish to attend the cremation,” the official said.
