Bengaluru: Bengaluru South City Corporation has closed and sealed 63 commercial establishments that were operating illegally in residential areas within its limits, health officials said on Tuesday, citing action ordered by Commissioner K. N. Ramesh.
The action targets commercial units running without rules being followed on roads narrower than 40 feet.

The operation was carried out at the same time in five Assembly constituencies, and teams of officials sealed the shops on the spot. It covered wards including Kumaraswamy Layout, Shakambari Nagar, J.P. Why the shops were sealed
Following a Supreme Court direction, commercial establishments cannot be run on roads narrower than 40 feet in residential areas. The corporation said the shops had been told several times to vacate. It sealed bakeries, condiment shops, snack outlets, salons and beauty parlours, fruit and vegetable shops, a hardware shop and other units that were running without an official trade licence.
Commissioner K. N. Ramesh warned that strict legal action would continue against anyone running commercial activity in residential zones without permission or a licence. The corporation said the action aims to protect peace, hygiene and safety in residential areas.
