Doctors and staff after the donor heart was transported via Namma Metro to Sampige Road station.
Bengaluru: A donor heart was transported by Namma Metro from Goraguntepalya to Mantri Square Sampige Road in 18 minutes on Wednesday for a life-saving medical procedure, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
The organ was taken aboard a Metro train at Goraguntepalya station at 2.22 pm and reached Mantri Square Sampige Road station at 2.40 pm.
BMRCL said the coordinated movement was arranged to ensure the heart reached its destination quickly while maintaining the required medical protocol.
With Wednesday’s transfer, Namma Metro has facilitated the transportation of six vital organs. These comprise one liver, three hearts and a pair of lungs, the corporation said.
The Metro network has previously been used to bypass road congestion during time-critical organ movements in Bengaluru.
