BENGALURU: The deadline for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP), set by the government for filling potholes in the city is past and so is the deadline given by the BBMP Chief Commissioner to the engineers. The deadline expired on Friday, but the BBMP has not repaired the road yet.
Citizens mocked and criticised the BBMP by drawing crating art works in a pothole on the main road in Sultanpalya. Residents expressed outrage against the Palike by drawing a picture of a man fishing by sitting on the edge of the crescent moon, in the pothole.
The number of potholes increased due to the recent rain in city. Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath ordered filling of all potholes by May 31. There were 5,500 potholes of which 3,483 potholes were closed. Dasarahalli and Rajarajeshwari city zones have more potholes and the engineers have been given time till June 4 to complete the pothole-filling work. Fixing potholes in the remaining six zones has also seen a delay.
The BBMP commissioner has also formed task forces at the zonal level to monitor filling potholes. As per the BBMP, there are about 900 potholes which remain to be filled — 392 in the east zone, 323 in west zone, 180 in South zone, 230 in Bommanahalli, 442 in Rajarajeshwari Urban zone, 91 in Yelahanka, 81 in Dasarahalli, 90 in Mahadevapura and 188 in KR Pura.
