Bengaluru Traffic Police Urge Motorists to Avoid Parking Near Junctions; Minister Krishna Byre Gowda Backs Pedestrian Safety Drive
Bengaluru, July 24: Bengaluru City Traffic Police has urged motorists not to park vehicles within 50 metres of road intersections, warning that vehicles parked near junctions can obstruct visibility, endanger pedestrians, delay emergency vehicles and increase the risk of road accidents.
In a post on X, the Traffic Police said a parked vehicle near an intersection may appear harmless but can hide pedestrians from motorists’ view, block drivers’ line of sight, delay emergency response vehicles and contribute to road crashes. The department reminded motorists that parking is prohibited within 50 metres of any intersection and appealed to the public to park responsibly to help save lives.
The advisory comes as the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) continues its citywide Safe Footpath Campaign to improve pedestrian safety and traffic management.
Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has consistently maintained that roads and footpaths are public spaces meant primarily for the safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles, and should remain free of encroachments and illegal parking. He has directed officials to intensify enforcement against obstructions on footpaths and around major junctions, stating that clear visibility at intersections is essential for preventing accidents and ensuring smooth traffic movement.
The minister has also emphasised that strict enforcement against illegal parking, particularly near junctions and pedestrian crossings, is part of the government’s broader initiative to build a safer, more accessible and pedestrian-friendly Bengaluru.
