Bengaluru Rural Deputy Commissioner conducts surprise attendance check at district offices
Bengaluru, July 13: Bengaluru Rural Deputy Commissioner Dr K N Anuradha conducted a surprise check of attendance at multiple government department offices in the district administration building, reviewing whether officers and staff had reported to duty on time.
According to the supplied information, as officials were arriving at their offices on Monday as usual, the Deputy Commissioner personally visited several department offices in the district administration complex and carried out a reality check on the presence of officers.
The offices visited included the Revenue Department, Land Records Department, Health Department, Agriculture Department, Department for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens, and the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, among others located in the district administration building.
The check comes after the government recently made online digital attendance mandatory for all government employees and introduced the Kartavya app for this purpose. Under the system, officials are required to log in at 10 am and log out at 5.30 pm.
As part of the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner visited the offices between 10.30 am and 11 am to verify whether district-level officers had arrived on time and were present at their desks, whether staff had signed the attendance register, and why some had still not reported to work on time. She also asked whether officers who had gone on field visits had recorded the same in the Kartavya app, according to the supplied material.
The supplied information stated that the Deputy Commissioner noticed several empty chairs in many offices and pulled up the officers concerned, directing them to provide proper reasons. She also reportedly instructed that everyone must mark attendance in the Kartavya app within the stipulated time, failing which further action would be taken.
The material further stated that office staff, who were arriving one by one as usual, had not expected the Deputy Commissioner to visit their offices and were taken aback on seeing her in their respective departments.
According to the supplied material, there is a public expectation that such periodic checks by the Deputy Commissioner could improve the efficiency of officials and help ensure that officers reach offices on time and are available to hear people’s grievances.
