108 Vacant-Plot Owners Served Cleaning Notices Across Three Bengaluru City Corporations
Bengaluru: The North, West and South city corporations have issued notices to 108 owners of vacant plots found littered with garbage, weeds or construction debris as part of a special cleanliness drive across Bengaluru.
The action was undertaken under the direction of Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, according to media releases issued by the respective corporations.
Bengaluru West City Corporation issued notices to 41 plot owners, while Bengaluru South City Corporation served notices on 30 owners. Bengaluru North City Corporation issued notices to another 37 owners.
West City Corporation Commissioner Dr Rajendra K.V. said stringent action was being initiated against unhygienic vacant plots within the corporation’s limits.
Of the 41 notices issued in the West corporation limits, 20 concerned properties in Padmanabhanagar, nine in Govindarajanagar, five each in Basavanagudi and Rajajinagar, and two in Malleswaram.
South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh said 30 owners had initially been served notices during the special operation.
These included 10 vacant plots in Padmanabhanagar and five each in BTM Layout, Jayanagar, Bengaluru South and Bommanahalli divisions.
North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said notices had been issued to 37 owners, directing them to remove garbage, weeds and construction waste from their properties within 24 hours and dispose of it at designated locations.
Owners who clean their properties within the stipulated period will face no further action, the North corporation said.
If an owner fails to comply with the notice, the respective city corporation will undertake the cleaning operation. The entire expenditure incurred on clearing and transporting the waste will be calculated according to the plot’s area and added to the owner’s property-tax account.
The West and South corporations cited Rule 15(2) of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016; sub-rules 18(1)(a) and 18(1)(b) of the Solid Waste Management By-laws, 2020; and Sections 274(1), 285(2) and 290 of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, while initiating the action.

The applicable regulations prohibit the dumping or burning of waste on vacant plots. Owners are responsible for removing accumulated garbage, vegetation and construction and demolition debris from their properties.
The corporations said unattended plots frequently become public nuisances and unhygienic dumping sites, increasing the risk of infectious diseases. Property owners have been urged to keep their plots clean and cooperate with the authorities in maintaining a healthy and sustainable urban environment.
