Bengaluru: Bengaluru City Police have seized drugs worth more than Rs 55 crore and arrested 39 people, including eight foreign nationals, in a major operation carried out by 16 police units across the city and at locations in other states, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said at a press conference on Monday.

Singh said the action was undertaken as part of the Karnataka State Police’s Mission RISE and the ‘Beda Bro’ campaign. The drugs were seized from various locations in Bengaluru as well as places outside Karnataka, including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Kerala, he said.

According to the Commissioner, different categories of narcotic substances were recovered during the operation, including MDMA, hydro ganja, cocaine and ganja.

A total of 39 people were arrested in connection with the operation. Of them, eight are foreign nationals, 21 are from other states and 10 are local residents, Singh said.

Describing it as a major operation, the Commissioner said 16 units of Bengaluru City Police participated in the crackdown. These included the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and police stations at Amruthahalli, Girinagar, International Airport, Yeshwanthpur, Yelahanka, Hebbal, Nandini Layout, Kadugodi, Malleswaram, Govindapura, Bagalur, Mahalakshmi Layout, Mahadevapura, Begur and Kothanur.

Singh said personnel and officers across the participating units had worked to develop sources within their respective jurisdictions and follow leads on the movement and availability of narcotic substances. The information gathered through these efforts led police teams to multiple locations and resulted in the seizures, he said.

The Commissioner congratulated the police personnel and officers involved in the operation, saying the coordinated action across the city had helped the force make the substantial seizure.

He said the success of the operation was also expected to generate further information about drug-related activities. Police would act on credible information received from the public, he added.

Singh appealed to citizens to share any information they may have about narcotics and drug-related activities with the police, assuring that appropriate action would be taken on such inputs.
