Bengaluru, March 15: The Bengaluru Central City Corporation has collected a total fine of ₹78.5 lakh for 11,694 violations related to the production, sale, and use of banned single-use plastics, as well as solid waste management regulations. Of these, ₹54.69 lakh was levied for 7,047 cases of illegal production, sale, and usage of prohibited single-use plastics. Additionally, ₹30.64 lakh was collected for 4,647 violations of solid waste management rules.

Despite ongoing public awareness campaigns urging citizens to refrain from using banned plastics, violations continue. Since the establishment of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation until September 2025, a significant number of shops and vendors have been identified for violating the ban on single-use plastics.

The corporation emphasizes that maintaining urban cleanliness is a shared responsibility, and public cooperation is essential for effective waste management. However, many individuals, hotels, and businesses are failing to segregate waste properly, leading to the creation of black spots that compromise the city’s cleanliness and aesthetics.

To combat this issue, the corporation’s waste management officials are actively imposing fines and issuing continuous warnings. Commissioner Rajendra Cholan has urged the public to avoid littering and to properly segregate waste for collection by auto tippers. He has also reiterated the importance of not engaging in the production, sale, or use of banned single-use plastics.
