Bengaluru Auto Rickshaw Fares Hiked: Minimum Fare Raised from ₹30 to ₹36, New Rates Effective August 1
Bengaluru: Commuters in Bengaluru will soon have to pay more for auto rickshaw rides, as the minimum fare has been revised from ₹30 to ₹36. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a formal order implementing the new fare structure, which will come into force from August 1, 2025.
As per the revised fare chart, the first 2 km will now cost ₹36, up from the earlier ₹30. The per-kilometre rate beyond the minimum distance has been increased from ₹15 to ₹18.
The fare revision follows repeated demands from auto driver unions seeking to raise the minimum fare to ₹40, citing rising fuel costs and maintenance expenses. However, the Bengaluru Urban District Collector, who also serves as the RTA chairman, approved only a ₹6 increase.
While auto drivers have welcomed the partial hike, daily commuters have expressed disappointment, especially since metro fares and BMTC bus fares have already seen upward revisions in recent months.
“This will hurt middle-class commuters the most,” said Kiran, a local office-goer. “Fares are rising across all modes of transport—metro, bus, and now autos. It’s becoming expensive to travel within the city.”
The new auto meter rates will be mandatory from August 1, and authorities have urged all auto rickshaw drivers to recalibrate their meters accordingly.
