Bengaluru: Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swami of Koppal’s Gavimath will inaugurate this year’s Mysuru Dasara, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Making the announcement while replying to the drought debate, Shivakumar said the seer had accepted the state government’s invitation to open the festival.
Invitation accepted after phone conversation
Shivakumar said he had sent an invitation letter to the Gavimath seer and also spoken to him by telephone on Thursday morning. The seer had agreed to inaugurate the celebrations, he told the House.
“I have sent an invitation asking Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swami of Koppal to inaugurate this year’s Dasara. I also spoke to him over the phone this morning. He has accepted our invitation,” Shivakumar said.
Legislators invited to the festival
The chief minister invited members of both Houses of the state legislature to attend the Dasara celebrations.
Noting that the state festival would take place the following month, he urged all members to attend the inaugural programme.
