BENGALURU:
For the third consecutive day, Bengaluru reported a huge number of Covid-positive cases and set a new single-day ‘record’ of 1,533 of the state’s 2,798 cases, while registering 23 of the 70 deaths statewide.
While disclosing these figures at a media conference, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar also said that the state had crossed the 20,000 RTPCR target by testing 20,282 people in a single day.
“Bengaluru is playing a major role in the number of positive cases reported statewide. The state capital now has 13,220 active cases while Karnataka has 21,833 active cases,” he said.
As per Sudhakar, around 70 deaths were reported statewide in the last 24 hours, of which Bengaluru registered 23 deaths.
Karnataka also witnessed 880 discharges, of which Bengaluru accounted for 480.
He claimed that the fatality rate in Karnataka was much lower than other states in India. “Karnataka’s fatality rate is 1.69% whereas Bengaluru has 1.3%, compared to India’s 3% and the world’s 4.5%,” he added.
