On Monday, KIMS ran out of oxygen and patients were shifted to Victoria, Bowring
BENGALURU:
Following the scare at KIMS Hospital on Monday when oxygen supplies ran out and hundreds of patients had to be shifted to Bowring and Victoria Hospitals, Medical Education Minsiter K Sudhakar did a recce of the hospital’s facilities.
Speaking to the media later, he said, “We are taking measures to set up oxygen plants at all medical hospitals across the state. In this connection, we are in contact with private firms which supply liquid oxygen.”
The demand for oxygen has risen five-fold due to Covid-19, he said, adding that he had requested the Prime Minister for Central assistance in this regard.
The KIMS Hospital has a liquid oxygen plant with a capacity of 2,400 cubic metres, but it can meet only half the current demand. The minister said the problem has not arisen in other districts as the demand is not as high as in Bengaluru.
