All patients were shifted to Victoria and Bowring Hospitals

BENGALURU:

Nearly 350 patients’ lives were put at grave risk after a sudden shortage of oxygen at KIMS on Monday evening.

Before any fatalities could occur, all these patients were shifted to the nearby Victoria and Bowring Hospitals.

According to a KIMS insider, the incident showed the utter negligence of the KIMS administration in risking the lives of patients despite the huge shortage of liquid oxygen in the hospital.

As per sources, nearly 45 ambulances were utilised to evacuate the patients.

Meanwhile, a KIMS press release said: “Due to shortage of liquid oxygen from the manufacturing company on August 17, we have anticipated that low oxygen hypoxic crisis may occur for oxygen-dependent patients. Hence we have informed the authorities about the situation and requested for arrangements of liquid oxygen from other suppliers.

“For damage control and precautionary measures, we plan to shift all oxygen-dependent patients to various government and private hospitals. During this crisis, all government officials and authorities immediately responded to our call and supported us by joining hands with the management for saving the lives of the patients. We are indebted for their kind cooperation.”

Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar and Health Minister B Sriramulu took stock of the situation.
