Delhi to Karnataka Link Exposed: Mastermind of Mass Bomb Threat Emails Nabbed in Mysuru
New Delhi/Mysuru: In a major breakthrough with nationwide implications, Delhi Police has arrested a 47-year-old man from Mysuru for allegedly sending over 1,100 fake bomb threat emails targeting schools, courts, and government institutions across India, triggering widespread panic from the national capital to multiple states.
The accused, identified as Srinivas Lui, was apprehended in a joint operation linking the national capital New Delhi with Karnataka, marking a significant inter-state cyber investigation success.
According to police officials, the accused had been sending threatening emails to key establishments including schools, High Courts, government offices, hospitals and hotels, creating an atmosphere of fear and disruption across several cities. In recent weeks, threats received by institutions in Delhi, including the High Court and Assembly premises, had intensified concerns, prompting a high-priority probe.
Investigators revealed that the accused used email and digital platforms to circulate bomb threats, leading to repeated evacuations, security checks and disruption of public services. The scale of the operation—spanning more than 1,100 threat messages—makes it one of the most extensive fake bomb threat cases reported in recent times.
During interrogation, Srinivas Lui reportedly confessed to his involvement. Preliminary findings suggest that he was under mental stress, which may have influenced his actions. However, officials are continuing to probe deeper into his intent, digital footprint and any possible links or assistance from others.
Police sources confirmed that multiple FIRs had already been registered across different states in connection with these threats, highlighting the pan-India impact of the accused’s activities.
The arrest underscores the growing challenge of cyber-enabled threats and misinformation, which can trigger real-world panic without any physical attack. Authorities are now working to analyse the accused’s devices, trace communication patterns and ensure that no wider network or accomplices are involved.
Officials said the operation reflects strong coordination between state and central agencies, successfully connecting the dots between incidents reported in Delhi and the accused operating from Karnataka.
With the arrest, security agencies believe a major source of recurring bomb threat hoaxes has been neutralised, bringing relief to institutions that had been repeatedly targeted over the past several months.
