Bengaluru, May 30: Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday congratulated D.K. Shivakumar on being unanimously elected as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and the Chief Minister-designate of Karnataka.
In a post on X, Surjewala described Shivakumar as a “true fighter,” a committed Congress worker and an exceptional organiser whose political journey has been deeply rooted in the party’s ideology.
“A leader with compassion and love in his heart for seven crore Kannadigas and a dream to take Karnataka to new heights of inclusive development and glory,” Surjewala said while wishing Shivakumar success in his new role.
Surjewala also expressed gratitude to outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his contribution to Karnataka and the Congress party, describing his tenure as a period marked by social justice, welfare-oriented governance and purposeful development.
He said Siddaramaiah’s eight years as a Congress Chief Minister would be remembered for his vision, commitment to social justice and implementation of transformative welfare programmes.
Calling it a personal honour to have worked alongside Siddaramaiah, Surjewala said he had the opportunity to witness and help translate the Congress philosophy of “development with welfare” into government policies, particularly through the implementation of the party’s five guarantee schemes.
The Congress leader also thanked the party’s MLAs, ministers, MLCs, office-bearers and grassroots workers for maintaining unity during the leadership transition.
“Congress is the sole guarantee of Karnataka’s development,” Surjewala said, adding that the party’s leaders and workers had once again demonstrated their commitment to the people of the state.
Emphasising unity within the party, Surjewala said Congress leaders would continue to stand together for Karnataka’s development, peace, progress and brotherhood as the state prepares for a new chapter under D.K. Shivakumar’s leadership.
