Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has alleged that the state government misused ₹1,323.96 crore released by the Centre as a special grant, claiming the funds were diverted to other departments instead of being utilised for the intended projects.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP State Office in Malleswaram, Vijayendra alleged that the Finance Department pressured concerned departments to submit fabricated utilisation certificates to the Centre, despite the funds not being used as specified. He demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarify whether fake utilisation certificates were submitted and explain where the funds were actually transferred.

According to Vijayendra, the special grant was released on July 1, 2025, for capital investment purposes. He stated that departments such as the Karnataka Minor Irrigation Department, Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam, and Visvesvaraya Jala Nigam had submitted utilisation certificates claiming proper usage of funds. However, he questioned whether the certificates were issued under pressure from the Finance Department.

He emphasised that the grant was interest-free and meant for specific developmental purposes, and alleged that its diversion would amount to serious financial misconduct.

Referring to previous controversies, Vijayendra cited the Valmiki Development Corporation scam and questioned whether large sums could have been transferred without the knowledge of the Finance Minister, who is also the Chief Minister. He also mentioned the ongoing investigation into alleged fake accounts used for fund diversion and recalled the resignation of a minister in connection with earlier financial irregularities.

The BJP leader further criticised the government for failing to respond to questions raised in the Assembly regarding the alleged diversion of ₹5,000 crore under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. He accused the Chief Minister of giving evasive replies and demanded a clear explanation on whether the funds were utilised, misused, or remain unaccounted for.

Senior leaders Govind Karjol and Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan were also present at the press conference.

The ruling government has yet to respond to the allegations.
