Bengaluru/Chitradurga: Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra on Tuesday strongly defended his father and veteran leader B.S. Yediyurappa, stating that he was “not a Chief Minister by luck, but one who rose through relentless struggle and public trust.”

Speaking about the decision to host a major event in Chitradurga, Vijayendra said the choice was strategic as well as emotional. “Senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol represents Chitradurga, and there was a strong desire to hold the programme here. Geographically too, it is centrally located, making it accessible for districts like Shivamogga, Koppal, Ballari, and Vijayanagara,” he explained.

Highlighting Yediyurappa’s political journey, Vijayendra emphasized that the veteran leader never aspired for power for personal gain. “He never chased the Chief Minister’s post. Through decades of संघर्ष, standing with the poor, farmers, and marginalized communities, he earned the people’s trust. That is what elevated him to leadership,” he said.

“Yediyurappa is not a ‘fortunate’ Chief Minister—he is a leader shaped by hard work and public faith. Even today, despite holding no official position, people across Karnataka continue to show immense affection and demand his presence wherever he goes,” Vijayendra added.

He described Yediyurappa as an “exceptional mass leader” whose five-decade-long political journey continues to inspire current and future generations of politicians.

Vijayendra also announced that a grand “Abhimanotsava” (celebration of public affection) is being organized to mark Yediyurappa’s 50 years in public life. “Leaders, supporters, and admirers from across the state will gather to celebrate his contribution and legacy,” he said.
