Bengaluru: A massive budget of over ₹20,213 crore has been presented for five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), outlining key initiatives aimed at sanitation, welfare, and urban infrastructure development.

With no elected representatives in place for nearly a decade, officials have been managing civic administration and presenting budgets for the city’s corporations. While budgets for the Central and East corporations were presented earlier, allocations for North, West, and South corporations were announced on Friday.

Among the key highlights of the budget are initiatives to improve city cleanliness, provision of electric scooters for pourakarmikas, free laptops for government school students, construction of shelters for stray dogs, and dedicated funds for mosquito control.

The North Corporation has been allocated ₹4,341 crore, including ₹301 crore for waste management, ₹8.86 crore for mosquito control, ₹8 crore for lake maintenance, and ₹14 crore for setting up a modern slaughterhouse.

The West Corporation has received ₹4,732 crore, with ₹322 crore earmarked for solid waste management, ₹71 crore for housing under single-house schemes, ₹334 crore as financial assistance for economically weaker sections, ₹30 crore for development and maintenance of 49 lakes, and ₹2 crore for educational tours for school students.

The South Corporation’s budget stands at ₹3,825 crore. Major announcements include ₹5 crore for free laptops to students, ₹11.92 crore to support street vendors through vending infrastructure, ₹6 crore for procurement of electric scooters for civic workers, and plans to construct a 500-capacity shelter for stray dogs.

Overall, the combined budget for all five corporations reflects a strong focus on improving civic services, supporting vulnerable sections, and enhancing urban infrastructure. However, with governance currently in the hands of officials, questions remain on effective implementation of these proposals on the ground.
