Union Home Minister lauds both BSY and Bommai, says latter will bring BJP back to power in next Karnataka assembly elections
BENGALURU:
BS Yediyurappa was discreetly shown the door out of the CM’s chamber by the BJP’s Delhi brass, but you wouldn’t think so hearing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s fulsome praise of the Lingayat strongman.
Speaking at an event in Davanagere on Thursday, Shah credited Yediyurappa with putting Karnataka on the path of development and working for the welfare of farmers and ruralites. Resorting to a euphemism, the Union Home Minister said the former CM ‘decided on his own’ to step down and pass the baton of leadership to Basavaraj Bommai. Shah said he was optimistic that Bommai would bring the party back to power in the next Karnataka assembly elections.

‘BSY did a lot for state’
“Recently, Yediyurappa-ji on his own decided to hand over the responsibility of the state to a new leader. Therefore, the BJP decided to give a chance to Bommai. I strongly believe that Yediyurappa has left no stone unturned in improving the lot of villages and farmers. If there has been a beginning of development in Karnataka, it has been during Yediyurappa’s rule,” Shah said.
The Union Home Minister praised both Yediyurappa and Bommai for keeping the Covid-19 pandemic well under control in Karnataka.
On the issue of vaccination, Shah praised Karnataka’s record, saying, “About 5.20 crore doses have been administered in Karnataka. About 4 crore have received their first jab and 1.16 crore the double dose,” he said. He estimated that by September-end, the state would have vaccinated 90 per cent of its populace.
Expressing his and the party brass’s confidence in Bommai’s leadership, Shah predicted that the BJP would come back to power in the 2023 state assembly elections. Eulogising Bommai’s experience in politics and public life, Shah said the CM had done a lot to implement various schemes and provide a transparent administration. “People in Delhi who are keeping an eye on Karnataka feel the party is sure to become strong under the leadership of Bommai,” he said.

‘Spread vaccination message’
The Union Home Minister exhorted BJP workers to spread the vaccination message among people. “Only 100 per cent vaccination can register a victory over corona,” he said.
