Bengaluru, March 12: Highlighting the crucial role women play in shaping lives and success stories, Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar, Managing Director (In-charge) of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), said that the sacrifices made by women in his family played a pivotal role in his journey to becoming an IAS officer.

Speaking after inaugurating the International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Women Employees’ Grievance Redressal Committee of KPTCL in Bengaluru, Dr. Manohar emotionally recalled how his mother’s determination and his sister’s sacrifice shaped his life and career.

“My mother once faced a life-threatening situation during childbirth. Doctors had told her that either the baby or she could survive. My mother chose to save the child even if it meant risking her own life. That sacrifice gave me life,” he said.

He also spoke about his elder sister, who had dreams of pursuing postgraduate studies after completing her degree. However, due to financial difficulties in the family, she sacrificed her education to support his studies.

“Because of my mother’s tireless struggle and my sister’s sacrifice, I stand before you today as an IAS officer. This shows the immense strength and selflessness that women possess,” he added.

Encouraging women to pursue their ambitions, Dr. Manohar said that many women are forced to give up their dreams due to family pressures and responsibilities.

“Every woman carries dreams within her. Unfortunately, only a few get the opportunity to realise them. My wife also once aspired to become an IAS officer, something I learned about later. Once I knew about her dream, I encouraged and supported her preparation,” he said.

He further revealed that despite being pregnant at the time, his wife continued her preparation and successfully cleared the examination. “Today she is serving as an IAS officer. Women must never give up their dreams because of circumstances,” he said.

The event was attended by several senior officials of KPTCL including Director B.P. Vijay, Managing Director D. Kodandapani, Director (Planning) Giridhar Kulkarni, Director (Operations) Vishwanath Nayak, Director (Finance) K.N. Gangadhar, former Chairperson C. Sujatha, and Women’s Grievance Committee Chairperson S.N. Sudha, along with other officials.
