After failing in its first plasma therapy attempt, Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru has found success in treating a young woman Covid-19 patient.
Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Hubballi was the first in the state to successfully treat a 65-year-old male patient recently. The Victoria Hospital case is the second successful plasma therapy intervention. The 38-year-old woman has recovered enough to be shifted out of the ICU on Friday.
According to Victoria Hospital doctors, the patient was admitted to the ICU with a high viral load. A diabetic, she received convalscent plasma therapy on May 27 and since then there has been a steady improvement in her condition.
“The patient was taken off high- flow nasal oxygen on June 2 and is at present on minimal oxygen. She was shifted to a ward on Thursday,” said a doctor who treated her.
Health Minister B Sriramulu picked up the development, tweeting that a second patient in Karnataka had been treated successfully with plasma therapy.

A doctor told TheBengaluruLive, “The patient was shifted to a ward yesterday. With her rapid recovery we hope to discharge her soon. This is a significant improvement and reassuring. We hope to see her recover completely and will closely monitor her condition going forward so as to send the patient from ward to her home.”
