Victoria Hospital Compound Wall Encroachments Cleared as Bengaluru Central City Corporation Launches Major Demolition Drive at KR Market
Bengaluru: A major encroachment clearance drive was launched on Wednesday by the Bengaluru Central City Corporation along Mysore Road in front of KR Market, adjoining the Victoria Hospital compound wall, following directions from the competent court.
The demolition operation is being carried out under the leadership of Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish, with officials removing encroachments that had come up along the stretch.
According to officials, around 150 shops are being demolished as part of the drive. The operation has deployed six JCB excavators, four 10-wheeler trucks and 10 tractors to clear the encroachments and remove debris.
A large workforce has been mobilised for the operation, including 60 engineers, 60 personnel from Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) and 20 health department staff. Fire services, police personnel, medical teams and ambulances have also been stationed at the site to ensure safety and emergency response during the demolition.
The operation is being supervised by Additional Commissioner (Development) Venkatachalapathi, Joint Commissioner Hemanth, the Chief Engineer, the Chamarajpet Executive Engineer, officials of BSWML, Market Division police officers, KSRP personnel and BESCOM officials, who are coordinating the demolition and maintaining law and order.
The civic body said the encroachment removal is being undertaken in compliance with the court’s order and is aimed at restoring the public right of way along the Victoria Hospital compound wall and the adjoining Mysore Road stretch near KR Market.
