Bengaluru, July 15: The Karnataka Examinations Authority has announced the final results of the first round of seat allotment for admissions to various professional degree courses, including engineering.

According to KEA Executive Director H. Prasanna, 1,22,512 seats have been allotted in the first round out of a total of 1,41,872 seats across various courses, leaving 19,374 seats unallotted.

In engineering alone, 90,748 seats have been allotted out of a total of 91,724 seats, leaving only 976 seats vacant. In the veterinary course, all 361 seats have been allotted, he said.

KEA said seat allotment has been completed for courses other than medical, dental, AYUSH and pharmacy. A schedule has been issued for candidates who have secured seats regarding the exercise of choices, payment of fees and reporting to colleges for admission. Candidates have been advised to report to their respective colleges by July 24.

Prasanna said separate dates have been fixed for recording choices for each course. Candidates seeking engineering admission can record their choice from July 16. Candidates for agricultural science and veterinary courses can do so from July 17. Those seeking admission to yoga and naturopathy, BPT, BPO and AHS courses can record their choice from July 18, while BSc Nursing candidates can do so from July 19.

He clarified that seats under the sports quota could not be allotted in the first round because of a delay in receiving the eligible list from the Sports Department. Those seats will be allotted in the second round, he said.

He added that seats under other special categories have been allotted, and the remaining seats in those categories have been redistributed to others in the same round.

Prasanna advised candidates waiting for admission to medical courses that if they have been allotted a seat in some other course in the first round, they should opt for Choice-2 and wait until the second round. He said options for medical courses will be opened after the medical seat matrix and NEET results are received, and candidates can then enter options by giving first preference to the course of their choice.

Candidates satisfied with the seat allotted in the first round have been advised to select Choice-1, pay the fee, download the seat confirmation slip and report to the allotted college for admission.

Candidates who find the allotted seat acceptable but are hoping for a better college can choose Choice-2 and wait. Those who do not want the allotted seat can choose Choice-3. Those who do not want the allotted seat and also wish to exit the entire process can choose Choice-4, he said.

Prasanna also said candidates will be allowed to change their choices within the stipulated period, with restrictions that existed in earlier years having been removed this time.

Earlier, once a choice was exercised after seat allotment, there was no provision to withdraw or change it. This time, however, candidates who initially choose Choice-2 can later switch to Choice-1. Even candidates who selected Choice-4 and exited the process can return and change their choice, he said.

He said the process had been made more candidate-friendly after taking note of serious problems faced earlier in such matters.

However, candidates who select Choice-1, pay the fee and secure admission in a college will not be allowed to change their choice. He said candidates may change their mind and alter their choice only before fee payment.

The course-wise allotment in the first round is as follows: Engineering, 91,724 total seats and 90,748 allotted; Agricultural Science, 3,915 total seats and 3,897 allotted; Nursing, 35,862 total seats and 18,025 allotted; Veterinary, 361 total seats and 361 allotted; AHS, 7,457 total seats and 6,962 allotted; BPT, 2,062 total seats and 2,037 allotted; and Yoga-Naturopathy, 496 total seats and 482 allotted.
