The incident, which occurred near the Chinnaswamy Stadium during celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) victory, resulted in the loss of at least eleven lives and injuries to several others. The Prime Minister’s expression of grief and condolences to the bereaved families, echoed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, underscores the gravity of the situation.
Initial reports suggest that a massive influx of fans attempting to attend a felicitation ceremony for the RCB team overwhelmed the venue’s capacity, leading to a breakdown in crowd control. While police resorted to what has been described as “mild force” to manage the situation, the sheer number of individuals attempting to gain entry simultaneously exacerbated the crisis.
