NEW DELHI/BENGALURU:
Tata Group is poised to become India’s first domestic iPhone manufacturer, following the agreement by Taiwan’s Wistron Group to sell its Bengaluru plant to India’s largest conglomerate.
Wistron’s board has approved the sale of Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Private Ltd to Tata Electronics for USD 125 million, according to a statement released by the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer on Friday. The plant, located near Bengaluru, is responsible for assembling iPhones.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Electronics and Information Technology in India, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Tata team for successfully assuming control of Wistron operations.

The acquisition of Wistron Corp’s factory marks the conclusion of approximately one year of negotiations. With over 10,000 employees, the facility is currently engaged in the assembly of the latest iPhone 14 model.
