Bengaluru: In a heartbreaking incident reported from Chandralayout, a 29-year-old woman died by suicide after her 11-month-old baby accidentally drowned in a water bucket at home.

The deceased have been identified as Pratibha (29) and her infant son Agastya (11 months). The tragic sequence of events unfolded at their residence in Bhairaveshwara Nagar.

According to police, Pratibha had gone to the terrace to collect dried clothes, leaving the child playing inside the house. During this time, the infant is believed to have wandered into the bathroom and accidentally fallen into a water-filled bucket, leading to drowning.

Upon returning, Pratibha discovered her child unresponsive. Unable to cope with the shock and guilt, she reportedly wrote a suicide note stating that she held herself responsible for the child’s death.

Police sources revealed that she initially attempted suicide by consuming around 15 tablets and later tried to harm herself, before ultimately dying by hanging.

The incident came to light when her husband Mahantesh, a software engineer, returned home from work. Finding the door locked, he used a spare key to enter the house, where he discovered the bodies of both his wife and child, along with the suicide note and other evidence.

Both Pratibha and Mahantesh were employed in the IT sector, with Pratibha working from home while caring for the child.

Chandralayout police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation. The bodies have been shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The tragic incident has raised concerns over child safety at home and the emotional toll of accidental tragedies on families.
