Bengaluru Launches Digital Census 2027 Today; Citizens Urged to Complete Self-Enumeration by April 15
Bengaluru: The city has officially kicked off the first phase of India’s fully digital Census 2027 from today, with all five civic zones—South, North, Central, and East—gearing up for a large-scale self-enumeration exercise aimed at improving accuracy and public participation.
Authorities across Bengaluru’s municipal divisions have urged citizens to actively take part in the “Self-Enumeration” process between April 1 and April 15, 2026, through the official portal (https://se.census.gov.in). This marks a significant shift towards a technology-driven census system, allowing residents to submit household details online from the comfort of their homes.
Officials stated that the initiative is designed to simplify data collection while ensuring transparency, speed, and accuracy. Citizens can complete the process in approximately 15–20 minutes using mobile phones, laptops, or desktops, after which a unique Self-Enumeration ID will be generated and shared via SMS or email.
The census will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, currently underway, focuses on voluntary self-enumeration for 15 days. This will be followed by a field verification phase from April 16 to May 15, during which enumerators will visit households to validate the submitted data. Residents will be required to share their Self-Enumeration ID during these visits.
In Bengaluru South, officials highlighted that prominent citizens and public figures will lead by example by participating in the self-enumeration process, helping build trust and awareness among the general public. Meanwhile, in North Bengaluru, authorities emphasised that citizen participation is crucial to ensure accurate demographic data that will shape future urban planning and welfare policies.
Central Bengaluru authorities confirmed that extensive training has already been provided to field staff, charge officers, and technical teams to ensure smooth execution of the digital census. Similarly, East Bengaluru officials stated that all preparatory measures have been completed, and citizens are encouraged to submit precise household information within the stipulated timeline.
Officials across all zones reiterated that the data collected during Census 2027 will play a critical role in planning infrastructure, allocating resources, and designing welfare schemes for the city’s growing population.
Reassuring citizens, authorities stated that all personal information submitted through the portal will be kept strictly confidential.
Calling it a “blueprint for Bengaluru’s future,” civic officials appealed to every resident to participate actively in this national exercise and make use of the self-enumeration facility within the given deadline.
