CM reshuffles portfolios, gives Sriramulu Social Welfare
BENGALURU:
In a major cabinet reshuffle on Sunday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has given the Health and Family Welfare portfolio to Dr Sudhakar, who continues to be Medical Education Minister. The additional responsibility is a likely acknowledgement of the round-the-clock work by the Minister, himself a medical doctor, in combating the coronavirus pandemic in the state. The official communication in this regard is expected to be issued later in a day, on Monday.
On the other hand, B Sriramulu, who was divested of the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, has been allocated the Department of Social Welfare, which was Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol’s charge.
The CM’s sudden and major ‘cabinet surgery’ has caught observers unawares but is not totally surprising. In the current pandemic crisis, a change in the Health portfolio allocation in favour of a professionally qualified ministerial colleague was almost to be expected.
