The death toll in the state is approaching the 500 mark as 54 new Covid fatalities brought the total to 470.
For the very first time since the virus struck the state, the number of new cases in Karnataka breached the 2,000 mark at 2,062. Bengaluru too saw a record 1,148 cases on Wednesday. The respective tallies for the state and the city now stand at 28,877 and 12,509.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries reached 11,876 with 778 patients discharged on Wednesday, leaving 16,527 active cases. Total recoveries in Bengaluru are 2,228, including 418 on Wednesday.
So far, over 7.5 lakh samples have been tested in the state, including 19,134 on Wednesday. Contacts under observation, both primary and secondary, are 60,027.
