Section 144 , which bans gatherings of more than 5 people, has been imposed across Bengaluru city till March 31. The government hopes that it will have the effect of keeping people indoors, as was witnessed with the ‘janata curfew’ on Sunday.

The relevant orders were issued after a direction by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to Bengaluru city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao.

Section 144 of the CrPC will come into effect from 6 pm on Tuesday and will end on March 31.

In furtherance of its earlier order to close pubs and bars, the government has decided to shut even wine stores which attract a lot of clients.

The government has also ordered shutting down of all kinds of transport services in the state, including Ola, Uber and autos. Salons and beauty parlours will have to shut down while essential services, including medical stores, will function normally.
