Road split in half after heavy rains

BENGALURU:

As predicted by the meterological department, the city witnessed a thunderstorm with heavy rains on Friday. Following the early morning downpour, a road in Laggere looked like it had been hit by an earthquake, with a car almost falling into the cracks.

The compound wall came down near flats constructed by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board at Coolienagar in Laggere. BBMP’s control room received several complaints of water entering homes in Laggere and Sahakaranagar.

Some areas near Sarjapur Road in front of the Columbia Asia Hospital junction were also submerged (see the picture sent by one of our readers).

As per the BBMP control room, heavy rain was reported from Koramangala, BTM Layout, JP Nagar, Bommanahalli, Electronics City, HSR Layout, Bellandur, Whitefield, Mahadevapura, KR Puram, Inidranagar, Domlur, Yeshwantpur, Margosa Road, Govindarajanagar, Tilak Nagar, Jayanagar, Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Sadashivnagar, Vijayanagar, Basavangudi, Mysore Road and other parts of the city.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre’s director GS Srinivas Reddy, the city will continue to receive heavy rains over the next four days.

These rains have been caused by the wind discontinuity from Vidarbha to Tamil Nadu, apart from a trough over the Arabian Sea.
