Bengaluru top cop’s ban order includes weddings with more than permitted attendees

BENGALURU:

Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru, city police commissioner Kamal Pant has imposed section 144 (1) till January 31, prohibiting all types of rallies, dharnas and protests and also banning marriage functions exceeding 200 people in open spaces and 100 people in closed places.

The prohibitory order will remain in force in all parts of the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate till 5 am on January 31.

Violators warned

The order reads: “All types of rallies, dharnas and protests, and marriage functions exceeding 200 people in open spaces and 100 people in closed places (prohibited). Any violation of the aforesaid instructions shall be liable for prosecution under the provisions of Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Section 188 of IPC, and Sections 4, 5 and 10 of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, 2020.”
