Prestige Group Adopts 1.25 Lakh Native Saplings Under Karnataka's Urban Ecological Restoration Mission
Bengaluru, June 28: Prestige Group has adopted 1.25 lakh native saplings under the Government of Karnataka and the Bengaluru Development Authority’s (BDA) Bengaluru Urban Ecological Restoration Mission, marking one of the largest private sector environmental commitments towards enhancing the city’s green cover.
The initiative forms a key part of the company’s Prestige Green Promise – One Million Trees for Bengaluru, a long-term afforestation programme aimed at restoring biodiversity, strengthening climate resilience and creating a greener urban environment.
Under the initiative, Prestige Group has undertaken the responsibility of maintaining the 1.25 lakh native saplings for three years across 25 acres near Challaghatta, with the objective of ensuring long-term survival and ecological impact rather than merely increasing plantation numbers.
The initiative also supports the Karnataka Government’s mission to plant 15 lakh native trees across Bengaluru.

Commenting on the initiative, Irfan Razack, Chairman and Managing Director of Prestige Group, said Bengaluru has been central to the company’s growth over the past four decades and that the company has an equal responsibility towards protecting the city’s ecological future.
“Prestige Green Promise is not merely a tree plantation programme. It is a long-term commitment to restore Bengaluru’s green heritage. By adopting and maintaining 1.25 lakh native saplings over the next three years, we are ensuring these trees survive and flourish. Our vision is not just to plant one million trees, but to create a lasting environmental legacy for future generations,” Razack said.
Nirbhay Lumde, Senior Vice-President (ESG & Sustainability), Prestige Group, said environmental sustainability requires long-term stewardship rather than one-time plantation drives.
“Our participation in the Bengaluru Urban Ecological Restoration Mission reflects Prestige’s belief that measurable ecological outcomes can only be achieved through sustained commitment. We hope this initiative encourages businesses and communities to actively participate in restoring Bengaluru’s green cover,” he said.
Prestige Group said that after contributing to Bengaluru’s urban development for nearly four decades, it is now equally focused on strengthening the city’s environmental future through sustained investments in afforestation, biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration.
According to the company, Prestige Green Promise is envisioned as one of India’s largest long-term urban ecological initiatives led by a private real estate developer, with the goal of making Bengaluru one of the country’s greenest and most sustainable metropolitan cities.
A response from the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) regarding the initiative was not immediately available.
