PM Modi Announces Nandan Nilekani-Led Task Force to Overhaul Public Examination System
New Delhi, July 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the constitution of a high-powered task force headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to undertake comprehensive reforms in India’s public examination system following widespread concerns over paper leaks and examination irregularities.
The announcement comes in the wake of nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak controversy and amid growing demands for stronger safeguards to ensure the integrity of competitive examinations.
Addressing the issue, the Prime Minister said those who had “played with the future of students” were already behind bars and that fast-track courts had been established to deal with such cases. He also said the government would move forward in Parliament with legislation containing stricter provisions to curb examination malpractice.
Modi said the Nilekani-led panel would focus on building a public examination system that is reliable, transparent and driven by technology. The task force has been entrusted with recommending structural and technological reforms aimed at preventing paper leaks and restoring public confidence in competitive examinations.
The Prime Minister said the recommendations would be implemented expeditiously to safeguard students’ interests and strengthen the credibility of the country’s examination process.
