Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said here on Thursday that new guidelines on treatment of Covid patients would be announced on Friday. Speaking after a meeting with senior officials on the Covid situation, the minister said home isolation of asymptomatic cases was also discussed.

GIMS lab

Dr Sudhakar remotely inaugurated the Covid testing lab at Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences. He said GIMS had made the state proud by becoming the first medical college to obtain approval from the Medical Council of India for P-G courses within 5 years of its establishment.

The minister said there are now 79 Covid testing labs across the state, including 44 government and 35 private labs. “We now have the capacity to conduct 15,000 tests per day and about 6 lakh samples have been tested in so far. The government has also conducted a survey of about 1.5 lakh households to detect asympomatic cases and identify vulnerable persons,” he said.

Gadag district in-charge minister CC Patil, former minister HK Patil, MPs PC Gaddigowdar and Shivakumar Udasi, and MLAs, MLCs and other dignitaries participated in the GIMS event online.
