Bengaluru: The Bengaluru South City Corporation has initiated steps to remove encroachments around Sarakki Lake (Sarakki Kere) following the recent directions issued by the Karnataka High Court regarding protection of the lake and its buffer zone.

Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner Sri K.N. Ramesh held an important progress review meeting today with senior officials of the engineering department to assess the status of works and compliance with court directions.

During the meeting, the Commissioner directed officials to immediately write to the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban District seeking coordinated action to clear encroachments around the lake.

Referring to Sarakki Lake, the Commissioner instructed officials to identify the lake’s buffer zone as per the court’s directives and remove all illegal constructions located within the restricted area without delay.

The civic body has been asked to initiate the process in coordination with district authorities to ensure that the High Court’s orders are implemented effectively and that the lake ecosystem is protected from further encroachments.

Officials from the engineering department were also directed to closely monitor the progress of the action and ensure that necessary steps are taken in accordance with legal procedures.

The move comes after the Karnataka High Court took serious note of encroachments and environmental concerns around Sarakki Lake, directing authorities to take corrective action and strictly enforce lake buffer zone regulations in the area.
