Modi govt will provide policy boost to semi-conductor companies: Minister Chandrashekhar

BENGALURU:

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar visited the CDAC centre here on Monday to launch the INDUS (Innovation Development Up-Skilling) IoT kit, which is a single- board IoT development platform. The CDAC-developed kit, the size of a credit card, is fitted with 6 sensors, actuators, connectivity and debugger interfaces.

The compact kit can facilitate development of local and smart solutions in a range of applications, including drones. It is modestly priced at Rs 2,500 per unit and will soon be available on the GeM portal. CDAC is willing to transfer this technology to start-ups for commercial production.

The Minister recommended extending IoT for drones, targeted industry use of HPC, and engagement with end-users early in the design cycle.

‘Centre as facilitator’

Addressing the gathering of top executives from leading MNCs and start-ups, Chandrasekhar said, “The Narendra Modi government is serious about making India an electronics and tech leader. The Ministry of Electronics and IT will play the role of facilitator/partner and work to provide support to catalyse growth and innovation, including access to market and capital.” He added, “India has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I call it the Y2K moment for the technology and electronics sector. The government is committed to working with semi-conductor companies and start-ups and will provide the right policy framework.”

The meeting with the Minster was much appreciated by those present. “It was inspiring to see the Minister’s vision of overall growth in electronics and semi-conductors,” said Santosh Kumar, President and MD, Texas instruments India.

“With such leadership at the helm, I am sure the Indian semi-conductor industry will prosper in the coming years,” said Parag Naik, CEO, Saankhya Labs.

“It’s exciting to note the government’s commitment to scale India’s footprint on the global electronics and semi-conductor supply chain” said Sumeet Mathur CEO, Cirel Systems.

“I loved the (Minister’s) thinking on the need to co-develop solutions with India ecosystem partners. It very much aligns with what Intel has embarked on with its Intel foundry services-based design and IP services,“ said Srinivas Lingam, Vice-President, Data Centre and AI Group, and GM, Artificial intelligence Group, Intel India.

Among those who interacted with the Minister were Srinivas Lingam, VP, Intel, Sanjay Gupta, Managing Director, NXP Semiconductors, Santosh Kumar, Managing Director, TI, Deepak Agarwal, Sr Director, AMD, Rajen Vagadia, VP & President, Qualcomm India, Dr Neel Gala, CTO, Incore Semiconductors, Saravana Kumar Ganeshan, CEO and Founder, MMRFIC, Sumeet Mathur, CEO and Founder, Cirel, Naranaya Rao, CEO, Accord, and Parag Naik, CEO, Sankhya.
