Activist files complaint; police plan to question girl in tape

BENGALURU:

Water Resources Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi has found himself in the centre of a sex scandal after some local Kannada TV channels on Tuesday aired an alleged sex tape featuring the minister. The hot-potato issue, which is certain to embarrass the ruling BJP, has now fallen in the lap of the Cubbon Park police.

Activist and Nagarika Hakku Horata Samiti president Dinesh Kallahalli filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park police at around 6.45 pm on Tuesday evening after meeting city police commissioner Kamal Pant. However, the girl in the tape has yet to come forward to file a complaint.

Kallahalli claimed that the video and several audio clips that he released to the TV channels were given to him on Monday by the family members of the girl.

After meeting Pant, Kallahalli said, “I have explained the entire episode to the city police commissioner and all the videos have also been shown to him. As per his guidance, I am filing a police complaint with the Cubbon Park police station.”

Interestingly, the motive behind the recording of the sex act is yet to be ascertained.

Third-party complaint

Meanwhile, neither the girl nor Minister Ramesh Jarkiholli has filed any complaint. “The girl hasn’t filed any complaint, and neither has the minister filed a complaint of blackmail. The issue is complicated as the complainant, Dinesh Kalahalli, is the third party. The police will have to ask the girl to appear before the investigating officer to answer several questions,” said a senior police officer who did not wish to be quoted.

DCP (Central) Anucheth said, “Dinesh Kallahalli has given his representation and we have accepted his petition. As the complaint is given by a third party, there is a procedure which we have to follow.”

Ramesh Jarkiholli was one amongst 17 MLAs who had quit the Congress to topple the JDS-Congress government and bring the BS Yediyurappa-led BJP to power for the fourth time in Karnataka.
