BENGALURU:

Following a report in thebengalurulive.com which pointed to the fact that the BBMP Mayor and Commissioner had failed to visit Kengeri to inspect the damage to the retaining wall and a part of the road after the  Vrishabhavathi river overflowed on Thursday evening, the two top civic functionaries and a team of officials visited the spot nearly 16 hours after the incident occurred.

As per sources, the retaining wall collapsed around 5.30 pm on Thursday evening. Some officials from the storm water drain wing and traffic cops along with City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao visited the spot and took control of the situation by diverting  traffic heading towards Mysore to the other side of the road.

The Mayor-commissioner team visited the spot only after 9 am on Friday.

“It was a photo op for them. The crisis was on Thursday evening and they failed to take control then. The Police Commissioner and some BBMP engineers who were there since Thursday evening did a wonderful job,” said a corporator who was present at the spot on Friday morning.

Mayor M Goutham Kumar said the retaining wall was built 20 years ago and it was ‘shoddy’ work by the National Highways Authority. “Now we have directed BBMP’s storm water drain wing to take up the work on priority,” he added.
