New Covid labs at Gadag, Vijayapura and Tumkur
60 labs by May-end, says Dr K Sudhakar

With the Gadag, Vijayapura and Tumkur district hospitals receiving approval from the Centre for CBNAAT Covid-19 laboratories, Karnataka now has 26 labs and the capability to conduct 5,000 tests per day. This increase is significant in the state’s fight against the corona virus, considering that it had just 2 labs in the beginning of February and a capability of testing only a few hundred samples.
Of the 26 labs, 15 are RTPCR labs, 3 are CBNAAT labs and 8 are private labs.
Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said the number of labs would go up to 60 by the end of the month.
From day one, Karnataka has deployed a 4T strategy –Testing, Tracking, Tracing and Treatment — to effectively contain the corona virus. The increase in the number of labs will further boost the government’s strategy of early detection and follow-up measures.
Dr. K. Sudhakar tweeted: “We have boosted our COVID19 testing capabilities. Gadag, Vijayapura & Tumakuru get their own Covid-19 testing labs. From just 2 in Feb, we now have 26 labs & capable of testing 5,000 per day. We will have 60 labs by end of May. Thank you@PMOIndia for the support @BSYBJP.”
