Karnataka, Maharashtra ministers inspect flood-prone areas

Date:

BELAGAVI:

Following a joint inspection at the Panchganga river near Ichalkaranji by Water Resources minister Ramesh Jarakiholi and Maharashtra’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Saturday, Jarkiholi suggested that the district officials of Belagavi, Kolhapur and Sangli should coordinate on the release of water from upstream dams to prevent distress to villagers downstream.

Last year’s floods had caused severe hardship to villages along the banks of the Krishna river.

Earlier, Jarkiholi inspected the situation near the Manjri bridge in Chikkodi taluk. Speaking to the media, he said, “This time, the flood situation is under control. The water from the Koyna reservoir has not been released yet. We are fully prepared and district officials are in constant touch with their Maharashtra counterparts.”
