Karnataka Introduces Bed & Breakfast Category to Boost Community Tourism and Local Hospitality
Bengaluru: Karnataka has introduced a dedicated Bed & Breakfast (B&B) category under its Tourism Policy as part of efforts to promote community-based tourism, strengthen local entrepreneurship and expand quality hospitality options across the state.
The initiative was highlighted by V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Secretary, Karnataka Tourism, in a social media post, where he said tourism growth becomes more meaningful when it creates opportunities for local communities while delivering memorable experiences for visitors.
According to the post, the new B&B category provides a structured framework to encourage community-based accommodation, support local entrepreneurs and diversify the state’s tourism ecosystem by expanding quality hospitality offerings.
The policy also aims to create an enabling environment where responsible tourism and sustainable livelihoods can grow together, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive and destination-focused tourism development.
V. Ram Prasath Manohar said Karnataka will continue implementing progressive reforms, quality standards and collaborative partnerships under the state’s Tourism Policy to strengthen the tourism ecosystem and position Karnataka as one of India’s preferred tourism destinations.
The announcement forms part of the Karnataka government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism while generating economic opportunities for local communities through responsible hospitality initiatives.
