Karnataka Drug Wing Unearths Suspected Spurious Medicines Racket Near Bidadi Toll Gate; Stock Worth Over ₹5 Crore Found
Bengaluru, August 18: Karnataka’s Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has unearthed a suspected spurious medicines racket during a major operation near the Bidadi toll gate, with drugs valued at more than ₹5 crore found at premises allegedly operating without a valid licence, according to information shared by the department through a WhatsApp message.
The department said its drug wing found suspected spurious medicines carrying labels of multinational companies during a repacking operation. It said the premises where the activity was detected was functioning without a valid licence.
The operation assumes significance against the backdrop of the Health Department’s recently launched QR-code facility aimed at enabling the public to report drug-related complaints and irregularities. This could be the first such major raid after the launch of the QR-code facility, though the department has not stated this officially.
According to the information shared by the department, the value of the drugs involved is estimated at more than ₹5 crore.
