Karnataka crosses 9,000-plus daily infections for 6th time

Unlock4 may have created an impression that the deadly coronavirus is under ‘some control’. But numbers don’t lie, and the state has witnessed 9,000-plus daily for the sixth time in recent weeks, clearly indicating that the pandemic shows no signs of abating.

A total of 9,319 positive cases were detected on Sunday. On the flip side, 9,575 people were discharged. Sadly,  95 patients succumbed to the coronavirus statewide.

Karnataka’s total case tally is now within touching distance of the 4-lakh mark at 3,98,551. Of these, 2,92,873 have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. The death  toll statewide is 6,393. That leaves 99,266 active cases, of whom 775 are in ICUs.

With 2,824 positive cases in Bengaluru on Sunday,  the city is witnessing a plateau of sorts. The total case tally in the city is now 1,47,581. Of these, 1,05,692 have recovered, while 39,725 areactive and 2,163 have died.

Behind Bengaluru on Sunday were Mysuru, Ballari and Tumkur with 686, 396 and 304 cases respectively.

In other districts, it was Bagalkot 180, Belagavi 427, Bengaluru Rural 93, Bidar 83, Chamarajanagar 41, Chikkaballapur 81, Chikkamagalur 239, Chitradurga 261 and Dakshina Kannada 326.

Davanagere reported 221 new cases, Dharwad 311, Gadag 194, Hassan 324, Haveri 295, Kalaburagi 165, Kodagu 38, Kolar 119, Koppal 198, Mandya 230, Raichur 187, Ramanagara 68, Shivamogga 329, Udupi 217, Uttara Kannada 247, Vijayapura 96 and Yadgir 139.
