Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress has said operations against the black-market sale of ration rice across several districts resulted in the seizure of about 5.65 lakh kg of rice and 24 lorries. The party said six cases were registered and two officials were suspended for dereliction of duty.
In its Kannada statement, Congress described the action as a crackdown by the state government on the illegal transportation and sale of ration rice. It did not identify the districts, dates of the operations or the suspended officials.
Rice and vehicles seized
The accompanying graphic gave the more precise rice quantity as 5,64,992 kg, while the post rounded it to 5.65 lakh kg. The graphic also put the value of the seized lorries at ₹4.75 crore.
The source describes the commodity as ration rice. It does not allege that the rice was adulterated.
Cases and official action
The post said six cases had been registered in connection with the action. It separately stated that two officials were suspended for failing in their duties, without naming them or specifying their departments or postings.
The graphic repeats the figure of six but labels that line as lorries seized, whereas the written post identifies six cases and separately gives 24 as the number of lorries. The case count in the party’s written statement is therefore attributed to that statement.
Congress said the government was taking uncompromising action against the black-market racket and described protection of food meant for the poor as a priority. The post did not provide a district-wise seizure breakdown or details of the individual cases.
