Of Rs 3,661 crore released under Amrit Nagarothana project for Bengaluru, BJP MLAs get Rs 2,718 crore, Congress MLAs Rs 833 crore and lone JDS MLA Rs 110 crore.
Bommai is yet to release remaining Rs 2,339 crore, which could land in BBMP ‘s kitty just before the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections are announced
BENGALURU:
Gain some, lose some – depending on which side of the political divide you are. Inevitably, it has been a windfall for the ruling BJP MLAs with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai allotting his partymen a massive 74% of the Rs 3,661 crore released under the Amrit Nagarothana project for Bengaluru’s development. The balance Rs 2,339 crore of the Rs 6,000 crore allotted to the project is yet to be released.
Expectedly, major chunks of the money have gone to MLAs representing Mahadevapura, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bommanahalli, KR Puram, Bengaluru South, Yeshwantpur, Govindrajanagar and Padmanabhanagar, with each of them getting more than Rs 200 crore for assembly constituency-related works.
Poll lollipops!
These allocations can clearly be considered ‘election grants’ with the objective of attracting Bengaluru voters, coming as they do just ahead of the 2023 assembly polls in Karnataka.
The state’s Urban Development Department had on February 25 issued an order directing the zonal officials concerned to submit an action plan within 7 days for the execution of developmental works in the 28 assembly constituencies falling under BBMP limits.
As per information available with TheBengaluruLive, the Chief Minister had promised an allocation of Rs 6,000 crore under the Amrit Nagarothana project over the next three years. So far, the CM has allotted Rs 3,661 crore, of which BJP MLAs who represent around 15 assembly constituencies in Bengaluru have received a whopping 74.24%. The BJP MLAs have got Rs 2,718 crore, whereas the Dasarahalli MLA gets the highest grant of Rs 110 crore among all non-BJP MLAs.
Congress MLA Byrathi Suresh, who represents Hebbal, has got the highest allotment of Rs 90 crore amongst all 12 Congress MLAs in the BBMP limits, while the Anekal MLA gets the smallest amount of Rs 8 crore as barely a part of one BBMP ward falls under his assembly jurisdiction.
