In mutual understanding, BJP backs his candidature; Cong members don’t take part
BENGALURU:
Senior JDS leader Basavaraj Horatti has been elected new chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council. The post had fallen vacant after Congress leader Pratap Chandra Shetty resigned the seat.
In the 75-member Legislative Council, the BJP has 31 members, the Congress 29 and the JDS 13, while there is one independent member.
Horatti was backed for the post by his party as well as BJP members. Though Congress candidate Naseer Ahmed filed his nomination, none of the Congress members, including Naseer Ahmed, participated in the election process.
